James Fenimore Cooper [James Fenimore Cooper]
(1789–1851) the first major US writer of novels. He wrote mostly about frontiersmen and Native Americans. His best-known books include ↑Last of the Mohicans (1826) and The Deerslayer (1841). He also wrote novels about sailors and histories of the US Navy.
